Access to view the windmill from outside is freely available, as it is just a few
yards from a public road on a small area of open land. The mill is on the site of
the old John Ruskin High School which was demolished in 1991 and redeveloped as
housing, and is almost opposite Coloma School. Look for the signs on lamp posts,
and on Open Days look out for our banners on Upper Shirley Road.
Travelling by public transport
Public transport links are good. East Croydon and West Wickham railway stations
are within easy reach by bus. Bus 466 stops near the end of Postmill Close, and
several others (119, 194 & 198) stop near the Wickham Road roundabout, a couple
of hundred yards away. There is a Tramlink stop within about 1 mile, and the tram
can be boarded at East Croydon station.
Travelling by car
Access by road is quite easy from any direction (see map). For those travelling
from a distance, there are good links off the southern and eastern sections of the
M25, via the A23, A22 and A21/A232, heading towards Croydon via Purley/South Croydon
or Orpington/West Wickham. From the north (i.e. Central London), head for Norbury
or South Norwood initially, or from the west, head for Sutton, then Central Croydon.
There is a small car park adjacent to the mill, which is reserved for disabled visitors
on Open Days, but is freely available at other times. General parking on Open Days
is on public roads near the mill, as directed by our signs and advice.
